  39. 1.  Q. What new features are included in Microsoft Project version 3.0
  40.        for Windows?
  41.  
  42.     A. One of the new features of Microsoft Project version 3.0 is a
  43.        customizable toolbar in which some of the most frequently used
  44.        commands, such as printing and previewing, are just one mouse
  45.        click away. With the new macro language in Microsoft Project
  46.        version 3.0, you can define your own buttons and assign them to
  47.        commands or to macros.
  48.        
  49.        Microsoft Project version 3.0 also brings you PlanningWizards
  50.        that can guide you from starting a project to setting
  51.        preferences and leveling resources. You can now have up to
  52.        9,999 tasks and an equal number of resources per file. The
  53.        multiple-page print preview allows you to view up to 32 pages
  54.        together on the screen, and fit-to-page printing is now
  55.        available for users with PostScript(R) printers. In addition,
  56.        you can have up to 10 levels in an outline, which means you can
  57.        be twice as detailed when you construct your project. Other new
  58.        utilities include a spelling checker as well as a graph module
  59.        that you can use to create custom graphs from project
  60.        information.

  62.        Microsoft Project version 3.0 now supports dynamic data
  63.        exchange (DDE), which enables both cross-project task linking
  64.        and information sharing with other applications, such as
  65.        Microsoft Excel for Windows. Microsoft Project version 3.0 also
  66.        supports object linking and embedding (OLE). This feature
  67.        allows you to update a Microsoft Project version 3.0 Gantt
  68.        chart that is embedded in a Microsoft Word for Windows document
  69.        simply by double-clicking the chart object.

  71. 2.  Q. I understand that there is a maintenance release of Microsoft
  72.        Project version 3.0 for Windows. What are the specific issues
  73.        that this maintenance release resolves?
  74.    
  75.     A. The Microsoft Project version 3.0a maintenance release corrects
  76.        problems that occur when you are:
  77.  
  78.        -  Saving files that share a common resource pool
  79.        
  80.        -  Using the Rollup option in the Gantt chart view
  81.        
  82.        -  Linking data in the Percent Complete field with the Paste
  83.           Link command
  84.        
  85.        -  Calculating the number of weeks in a year
  86.     
  87.        If you are using Microsoft Project version 3.0 and you save
  88.        files that share a common resource pool, you may receive a
  89.        general protection (GP) fault or an unrecoverable application
  90.        error (UAE) (depending on the file sizes and the number of
  91.        times you save them). While these errors do not normally result
  92.        in a loss of data, we suggest that you obtain the maintenance
  93.        release that corrects these problems.

  95.        When you are using the Rollup option in the Gantt Chart view,
  96.        if more than one bar or symbol is rolled up for any single
  97.        task, you may receive a GP fault or a UAE when you close print
  98.        preview or when you print your document. This problem is
  99.        corrected in Microsoft Project version 3.0a.
  100.    
  101.        In Microsoft Project version 3.0, when you link a value from
  102.        another application by choosing the Paste Link command to paste
  103.        the value in the Percent Complete field, the link is not
  104.        established. With Microsoft Project version 3.0a, you can paste
  105.        and link successfully.

  107.        In Microsoft Project version 3.0, when you calculate the number
  108.        of weeks in a year, the numbering begins with the week that
  109.        January 1 occurs in, even if January 1 is the last day of the
  110.        week. In Microsoft Project version 3.0a, the first week of the
  111.        year is redefined as the first week that includes more than 4
  112.        days of the new year.

  117. 3.  Q. What are the minimum hardware and software requirements for 
  118.        Microsoft Project version 3.0 for Windows?

  120.     A. To run Microsoft Project version 3.0, you need the following:

  122.        -  An IBM(R)PC/AT(R) or compatible, or PS/2(R), with an 80286
  123.           or higher processor.
  124.        
  125.        -  2 megabytes (MB) of RAM is the minimum requirement; 3 MB is
  126.           strongly recommended.

  128.        -  A hard disk with 8.1 MB of available hard disk space.
  129.        
  130.        -  MS-DOS or PC-DOS versions 3.1 or later.
  131.        
  132.        -  Microsoft Windows operating system version 3.0 or later
  133.           running in standard or 386 enhanced mode.

  135.        -  An IBM-compatible EGA, VGA, 8514/A, or Hercules(R) graphics
  136.           card or other high-resolution graphics card compatible with
  137.           Windows version 3.0 or later.

  139.        -  A mouse is optional but highly recommended because some
  140.           Microsoft Project version 3.0 features require a mouse.

  142.        -  A 5.25-inch or 3.5-inch high-density disk drive or a 3.5-
  143.           inch low-density disk drive.
